Phone Bank for Freedom!

First Presbyterian Church of Palo Alto and multiple other peninsula /
south bay churches are hosting pro-LGBT, pro-marriage "no-on-8"
phone bank events to oppose California Proposition 8.

To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time that First Palo
Alto is coordinating with a ballot measure opposition campaign to
organize and host a pro-LGBT phone banking event.

WHEN: Tuesday Sept. 16 and Tuesday Sept. 23, 6:30-9:30 PM
(Additional Tuesday-night phone bank events are pending Session
approval in late September, which I'm optimistic will be a "yes".)
WHERE: Fellowship Hall, First Presbyterian Church, Palo Alto,
1140 Cowper St.
WHAT: organized phone banking to oppose the anti-gay, anti-marriage
California Proposition 8.

WHY: To preserve marriage equality in the state of California
and protect the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender
people in our state.

WHO we're calling: swing voters who can be persuaded to vote NO on 8.
RSVP: Not required, just show up!

CONTACT PERSON: Bruce Hahne, hahne@io.com on behalf of the First Palo
Alto More Light team.

NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED - the California no-on-8 campaign is providing
a phone bank trainer and coach for these events who will help all
of us to get started.

WHAT TO BRING:
- Yourself
- Your personal cell phone
- Your cell phone charger
- A cell phone headset, if you have one (optional but can make life
easier)

WHAT WILL BE PROVIDED:
- Training and talking points
- Call lists / call sheets and instructions
- Refreshments (not a full dinner though)
- Tables, chairs, pens...
- Electrical power to your table to plug in your phone, as needed

IF YOU DON'T HAVE A CELL PHONE:
See the "if you don't have a cell phone" suggestion at the
bottom of noon8phonebank.blogspot.com. T-Mobile has an excellent
deal running that can probably solve your problem. Or email
me at hahne@io.com and I might be able to provide a cell phone for
you at the phone bank event.

(Disclaimer etc: These events are non-partisan and are not associated
with any political campaign or candidate. 501c(3) non-profit
organizations such as First Palo Alto are legally permitted to
participate in ballot measure advocacy.)
