Are you aware that the lack of insurance compromises the health of the uninsured, because they receive less preventive care, are diagnosed at more advanced disease stages, and once diagnosed tend to receive less therapeutic care and, as a consequence of all these factors, they have higher mortality rates than insured individuals? (NCHC) 69. Studies estimate that the number of "excess" deaths among uninsured adults age 25-64 (as compared to insured adults age 25-64) is about 18,000 a year. (NCHC) 70. This mortality figure is more than the number of deaths from diabetes (17,500 a year) for the same age group. (NCHC) 71. Would you agree that health insurance-allowing access to preventive care and early disease diagnoses-will improve the health of the uninsured?
