Congress is about to vote on this! On January 22, 2009, President Obama issued an executive order that, among other things, requires all government agencies to provide the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) with access to detainees. This was a huge step toward protecting detainees from abuse, because detainees are much less likely to be abused when there is an independent agency monitoring their treatment...

What a holiday bonus! We thought we were winding the persimmon season down... then this past weekend we were offered 2 Fuyu persimmon orchards in Morgan Hill totaling about 350 trees. These orchards are BEAUTIFUL, FLAT, FULL of fruit and quite low. Picking is going to be fun and easy, and there's lots of it - we want to pick 10,000 lbs...
